Don't Fact Me
I don’t want it based on a true story I want it based on a lie and a fabrication.
I want stories free of facts – don’t give me facts – what can I do with facts?
Stop facting me over - I have no need of facting.
Based On A True Story
An autobiographical performance project. Previewed at The Arc Stockton in November 2013.
This piece combines personal and public stories: my mothers' recollections of occupied Holland in the Second World War; my uncle's photographs (taken secretly for the Dutch resistance) of the Second War; my father's diaries from 1934-5 recalling the boredom of lodging in Argentan, France. These stories are set against the so called facts and later historcial events - the Cuban Missile Crisis; the suicide of Ulrike Meinhoff; the birthday of Mike Judge (creator of Beavis and Butthead)...
The photographs below are from left to right. My father, Ken Stockwell (about 1934 - photographer unknown), my mother Ozia Stockwell (about 1968 photographed by her sister Roelie), My grandfather, Hessel Taconis (about 1962, taken by Kryn Taconis) my uncle Kryn Taconis (about 1944 - I believe a self portrait) the sepia photgraphs are of a tennis weekend organised by my grandfather (about 1896, photographer unknown).
These are all family photographs.
